Data Storytelling Resources
Failure to consistently deliver insights as clear, concise, and compelling data stories is one of the top reasons that research, analytics, and experimentation programs struggle to enable meaningful business outcomes.
One way we support our clients is by enabling their teams to up their data storytelling games (if you’re looking for assistance with that, we’d love to talk!).
A Practitioner’s Checklist for Creating & Delivering a Compelling Data Story
While there is a lot that goes into an effective data story, the downloadable checklist below is a high-level guide (with some of our favorite tactical tips) for doing so. Make it your computer’s desktop for a while! Make it the first slide in your company’s slide template! Print it out! And don’t forget to enjoy your business partners retelling your tales of impact across your organization!
Widescreen (16:9 / 1080p)—great for most full-size monitors and presentations
Standard (4:3)—great for laptops that are not widescreen and for presentation templates that are in 4:3 format
PDF (8.5”x11”)—great for sharing as an attachment or printing out for that physical/analog experience
Some Useful Writing (We Think!) on the Subject
Data storytelling has multiple distinct components, and doing it successfully requires critical pre-analysis focus, alignment, and thought.
When an experiment is finished, the report and the recommended changes (if any) are the easy parts. The harder part is the shared learning and ongoing conversation.
